Ordinary Human

My chair collection

I collect iconic pieces from the bauhaus, mid-century and post-modern eras of interior design. Eames, Knoll, Prouvé, Breuer, Gehry, etc.

I like chairs. Beautifully designed chairs. They're sculptural art that has utility (sitting down). They don't have to be comfortable, though they often are. I like how they evoke an emotional response simply from the space they occupy, and how it contours to your body. The 20th century modern era inspires me the most, though I'm not quite sure why.

The current inventory:

  • Togo modular sofa set by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset
  • Ant dining chairs by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen
  • Swag leg chair by George Nelson for Herman Miller
  • First chair by Michele De Lucchi for Memphis
  • Wassily Model B3 chair by Marcel Breuer for Gavina
  • Diamond chair by Harry Bertoia for Knoll

I hope to one day open up a chair gallery, for people to admire the art of sitting. It would also need to be a cafe*, as rent needs to be paid somehow.

*And possibly a wine bar by night—rent here in NYC is so damn expensive.
